(i) Jowar, Bajra, Ragi and chana.
(ii) Kidney beans, Green gram, Soyabean and Rice.
Answer:
(i) The odd one out is ‘Chana’. Jowar, Bajra and Ragi are all types of millet crops, whereas chana refers to chickpeas, which is a pulse crop.
(ii) The odd one out is ‘Rice’. Kidney beans, green gram and soyabean are commonly used as protein sources while rice is a carbohydrate.
Q.2. Discuss the traditional versus modern culinary practices in India.
Answer: Earlier cooking was done by using earthen or bronze made pots, bronze utensils on small open fire furnance (chulla). Now a days we use modern gas stove, microwave, air fryers for cooking. The earthen pots have been replaced with pressure cookers and modern cookwares. Earlier grinding was done manually using sil-batta, stone grinder (chakki) and husking pedal (dheki). Now-a-days we use the electrical grinder for grinding.
Q.3. All delicious foods are not necessarily healthy while not all nutritious food taste good. Discuss.
Answer: Some food are good in taste but harmful to our health. These are fried food with high calories. The food rich in fat can be very harmful for us. These foods are low in vitamins, minerals and dietary fibres. These type of foods makes a person obese and vitamin deficiency. To have a healthy body we should have a balanced diet. This type of foods have all the nutrients required for our growth and development and keep our body free from diseases. Those all nutritious food taste may be not good.

Answer: I prefer to eat fresh fruit because our body needs dietary fibres and water. Dietary fibres are also known as roughage. Though it does not provide any nutrient to our body but it is essential com-ponent of our food. This helps our body to eliminate undigested food.
Q.5. Sugar is an example of carbohydrate. If sugar is tested with iodine solution it doesnot change its colour to blue-black. What can be the possible reason?
Answer: Carbohydrates are of many types. The main carbohydrates found in our food are starch and sugars. We can easily iodine test if a food item contains starch. Sugar is a simple carbohy-drate. So its does not change it colour to blue-black.
