4. Why do we have to create sanctuaries for animals? (write in about 50 words).
Ans: Like plants a large variety of wild animal species is found in Assam. Animals like rhinoceros, elephant, tiger, wild buffalo, bear, deer, pig and different species of mon- keys live in the forests of Assam. But their habitats are now restricted to the protected forests, sanctuaries and national parks only. The animals are safe and protected in these areas. Moreover, the animals get a favourable environment for reproduction. In Nameri and Manas there are two tiger projects for protection of tiger. Moreover, Assam is the only state in India where the largest variety of birds is found.
5. Write the name of the places of crude oil wells and coal mines in Assam.
Ans: Digboi was the first place in India where crude oil was discovered by the Britishers in 1889. Presently crude oil is drilled from the wells at Naharkatia. Hugrijan. Moran, Rudrasagar, Galeki, Borhola, Lakwa Dihing valley etc.A large amount of revenue is collected by the Assam government from the crude oil.
