Q.6. Mention the similarities and differences between the laboratory thermometer and the climical thermometer.
Answer: Similarities:
1. Both are used to measure temperation.
2. Both contain memcury as the temperature indicating substance.
3. Both have a glass tube.
Difference:
|
Climical thermometer |
Laboratory thermometer |
|
1. Measures human body tem-perature 2. It measures temperature from – 35°C to 42°C |
1. Measures temperature of ob-jects and liquids 2. It measures temperature from -10°C to 110°C |
Q.7. Why can’t we use a laboratory thermometer to measure the temperature of our body? Give reason
Answer: We cannot use a laboratory thermometer to measure the temperature of our body because clinical thermometer has a kink mar the bulb which prevents the mercury column falling down from its own while recording the objervations. Additionally, a laboratory thermometer has a wider temperature rannge (-10°C to 110°C) which is unnecessary for measuring body temperature. Therefore, a clinical thermometer is more suitable for this purpose.
Q.8. Mark the mercury level on the sketches of thermometer as per the temperature reading shown below near each thermometer.
