1. 40 students from classes VI, VII and VIII of a school are selected for Talent Search Examination.

Their ages are shown in the following chart in years.

Now, put the tally marks for the students of age 10 years, 11 years, 12 years, and 13 years. Also find the number of students in each age group. Then answer the following questions-

(a) Altogether how many students are there of age less than 12 years?

(b) How many students are there together of 9 years and 13 years?

(c) How many students are there in the highest age group?

(d) In which age group the number of students are the least?

(c) In which age group the number of students are the most?

Ans:

(a) Number of students age less than 12 years = 11 + 12 + 9 = 32

(b) Number of students together of 9 years and 13 years of age 11 + 3 = 14

(c) Number of students are there in the highest age group = 3

(d) In age group of 13 years, the number of students are the least.

(e) In age group of 10 years the number of students are the most.

2. Number of family members of 30 students are shown below-

Arrange the number of members serially and show them using tally marks.

3. The favourite subject among Mathematics, Assamese, Science, Social Science and English of each student of a class is shown below. (It is assumed that the favourite subject of any one student is only one subject)

(a) What is the total number of students in the class?

Ans: The total number of students in the class = 41

(b) Which subjects are liked by most of the students and which subjects are liked by least the number of students?

Ans: Assamese subject is liked by the most number of students and English subjects liked by least number of students.

(c) What is the total number of students who like Mathematics?

Ans: The total number of students who like Science as well as English = 7 (Science) + 6 (English) = 13

(d) How many students like the subject Assamese more than English?

Ans: The total number of students who like Mathematics = 6

4. The number of domestic animals kept by 5 families of a village are as follows.

Now consider any symbol and represent the chart with a pictograph. Also answer the following questions.

(a) Which family has the highest number of animals?

(b) What is the difference between the highest and the least number of animals?

(c) How many more animals Nisha has than Gomseng?

(d) Which families have more than 5 number of animals?

Ans:

(a) Nisha’s family has the most number of animals.

(b) The difference between the most and the least number of animals = 11 – 5 = 6

(c) Number of animals in the Nisha’s family = 11 and Number of animals in the Gomseng = 5

∴ Difference = 11 – 5 = 6

∴ Nisha’s family has 6 animals more than Gomseng’s family.

(d) The families of Budhin, Kanmai, Nazma and Nisha have more than 5 number of animals.

1. The table below shows the year-wise number of babies who were vaccinated for polio in a span of 5 years (The data was collected from the Panchayat)

Consider 1 unit length = 100 babies and represent the data through a bar dia. gram and answer the following questions.

(a) In which year, highest number of babies were vaccinated for polio.

(b) How many babies in all were vaccinated during 2015 and 2016?

(c) Find the difference between the maximum and the minimum number of babies who were vaccinated for polio in the span of 5 years.

Ans:

(a) In the year 2018, highest number of babies were vaccinated for Polio.

(b) 680 (2015) + 720 (2016) = 1400 babies were vaccinated during 2015 and 2016.

(c) The maximum number of babies were vaccinated = 800 and the minimum number of babies were vaccinated = 570 during 2015 and 2016.

∴ The difference between the maximum and the minimum number of babies were vaccinated = 800-570 = 230.

2. On 5^th June (World Environment Day), the students of classes. Six, Seven. Eight, Nine and Ten planted saplings of plants together. The number of saplings planted by each class is shown below.

Observing the bar graph, prepare the chart and answer the following questions.

(a) In which month has the most number of books been sold?

Ans: In February has the most number of books sold.

(b) What is the total number of books sold in the month of April and March?

Ans: The total number of books sold in the month of April and March = 60 + 80 = 140.

(c) What is the difference between the number of books sold in January and March?

Ans: The difference between the number of books sold in January and March = 80 – 60 = 20.
