(a) What do you understand by duties of citizens?

Ans: Duties of citizens refer to the responsibilities and obligations that individuals have towards their society, which typically include obeying laws, paying taxes, defending the country (if required), and participating in civic activities.

(b) Mention the eleventh duty included in 2002.

Ans: The 86th amendment to the Constitution of India in 2002 provided the right to education as a fundamental right. A new article 21A was added which made the right to education a fundamental right for children between 6-14 years.

(c) Why should we respect the National Flag?

Ans: Respecting the National Flag is important as it symbolises the sovereignty and integrity of the nation, and represents the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. It instils a sense of patriotism and unity among citizens.

2. Write briefly on any 5 Fundamental Duties.

Ans: 5 Fundamentals right are mentioned below:

(i) To abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions: Citizens are expected to respect the Constitution, uphold its principles, and show respect for the institutions established under it, such as the judiciary and the legislature. This ensures the rule of law and the democratic framework of the country.

(ii) To cherish and follow the noble ideals that inspired the national struggle for freedom: This duty emphasises the importance of remembering and emulating the values and principles that guided the Indian independence movement. These include ideals such as non-violence, civil disobedience, and dedication to public service.

(iii) To uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India: Citizens have a duty to maintain the country’s sovereignty and integrity, promoting national unity and preventing any activities that could threaten the nation’s territorial integrity or internal harmony.

(iv) To defend the country and render national service when called upon to do so: This duty entails a commitment to national defence, requiring citizens to come to the country’s aid in times of need, whether through military service or other forms of national service.

(v) To promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India, transcending religious, linguistic, and regional diversities: Citizens are encouraged to foster social harmony and unity, emphasising the importance of tolerance and understanding across diverse communities. This duty seeks to minimise social and cultural differences and promote a sense of common identity as Indians.

3. What qualities can be developed through NCC, Scout and Guides?

Ans: NCC is more adventurous than scouts and guides. You’ll get a great opportunity to expose your leadership quality while you can even improve it. Coming to the experience, yes both of them will give you the best experience ever in your life however NCC would provide you many options in future. We feel safe at home when it is secured. Similarly citizens can live peacefully only when they can be protected from foreign enemies. It is the duty of every Indian citizen to perform the noble duty of defending the country. Therefore from a tender age children should be encouraged to join in activities like cu bulbul. scout-guides, N.C.C. etc. to arouse the spirit of patriotism. Such activities help in developing qualities like with the spirit of patriotism.

4. What should be done to protect the environment?

Ans: Nature is like our mother. If nature is safe we are safe. If we destroy nature, drought, flood, increase in global temperature, acid rain, etc. will occur and our life and livelihood will be threatened. That is why we should always encourage the protection of the natural environment such as planting trees, stop cutting down trees for no reason, maintain lakes, rivers and forests and encourage others to do the same. In addition, it is important to maintain the balance of the environment for all living beings so that they can survive properly as an integral part of nature. We also need to be careful so that our actions do not adversely affect the food and habitat of other animals.
